FAQ:

Does tennis elbow ever go away?

Yes, tennis elbow can be successfully treated with stretching and strengthening procedures specific to the tendons around the wrist and forearm. In the short term, an elbow support can help reduce symptoms by supporting these tendons until the root cause of the injury (often overuse or repetitive activities) has been modified. Seek advice from a Chartered Physiotherapist for a rehabilitation program specific to you.

Why does tennis elbow hurt so bad?

Tennis elbow is often due to overuse or repetitive movements at the wrist. Gripping a tennis racquet and extending the wrist is the perfect example of a movement than can cause tennis elbow, which is why the condition was given its name. However, other activities like typing, operating machinery, writing or other wrist movements can also overload the tendons that stem from the elbow. These tendons may weaken as they cannot cope with the increasing load and will therefore become inflamed or painful, often at the site they attach to at the elbow.

How can you treat tennis elbow at home?

Home stretches and strengthening exercises can be prescribed by a Chartered Physiotherapist to complete at home. These will ensure that the root cause of the injury is addressed and help prevent it from returning. Often prolonged positions of wrist flexion and extension can cause tennis elbow pain, therefore stretching the wrist and hand after any aggravating activities can help alleviate pain and prevent tennis elbow from occurring.

Are compression sleeves good for tennis elbow?

Compression sleeves such as the Anaform arm sleeve can be greatly beneficial in reducing the symptoms associated with Tennis elbow. The effect of compression will help improve circulation and therefore reduce swelling, pain and inflammation around the joint and tendons of the forearm. When returning to activity, wearing a compression sleeve may also help improve confidence when re-integrating to normal activities again and supporting the tendons until they are fully recovered.
